How a Grade 12 IB student transformed fragmented extracurriculars into a compelling narrative that earned acceptance to Stanford University.
Tanuj had strong extracurriculars—independent research in environmental policy, a school climate initiative, and a data science project—but no clear narrative thread connecting them. His initial essays were well-written but generic.
Working with Tanuj, his Tychr counsellor spent the first three sessions identifying the throughline. Tychr recognized that he was a quantitative thinker applying data to environmental problems. That realization became the spine of his entire application.
“Tychr's approach is truly holistic. They helped me think about my aspirations well beyond academics. Thanks to Tychr, I gained acceptance to Stanford, a dream I once thought was completely out of reach.”
Tychr has supported students to offers at every major UK institution, with specific Oxbridge preparation (admissions tests, personal statement, interview coaching) that has produced acceptances across sciences, humanities, law, and social sciences.
Calibrated personal statement to Cambridge's specific expectation of demonstrating active thinking, rather than passive learning.
Rebuilt personal statement around an independent historical argument using primary sources beyond the IB curriculum.
6 intensive interview prep sessions with a Cambridge-experienced tutor.
Practiced 3 unseen problem-solving scenarios to master thinking aloud during live interviews.
“Tychr didn't just help with my application, they helped me grow as a person. I am now at Cambridge.”
Tychr's US admissions programme has produced consistent annual acceptances at every Ivy League school, MIT, Stanford, and dozens of other top US institutions. These stories represent the range—different profiles, different schools, different strategies, consistently exceptional outcomes.
Tanvi had a Tychr-facilitated remote biology project in Grade 11. However, research alone wasn't enough; Tychr helped her write MIT's five short essays to consistently project who she is as a scientist and collaborator.
“The Tychr team was incredibly patient. They helped me present a coherent story. I'm thrilled to have been accepted to MIT.”
Tychr focused heavily on Raul's Princeton supplementals, specifically calibrating the SPIA (School of Public and International Affairs) essay and the creative writing prompt to align with Princeton's admissions culture.
Sarah's 'Why Columbia?' essay was completely rewritten three times to eliminate generic praise and deeply engage with particular Columbia academic traditions and Core Curriculum specifics.
Tychr identified and sourced a Grade 11 summer internship that connected directly to Vishaal's narrative, serving as the anchor for both his personal statement and activity list.
Through Tychr's research placement support, Diya completed a materials science project submitted to a peer-reviewed student journal, proving active research engagement.

Foundation for eventual Ivy League & Oxbridge placements

Not every Tychr student arrives with a perfect academic profile. Some of our most significant outcomes have come from students who started below the competitive range for their target schools, and who, through Tychr's combined tutoring and admissions support, closed the gap.
Liam was struggling with physics and mathematics with an IB predicted 31—well below Oxford's typical 38+ offer threshold. Tychr provided intensive HL Physics and Maths tutoring (twice weekly), combined with an admissions strategy that specifically identified colleges at Oxford with lower grade thresholds for his subject in that cycle. By UCAS submission, his mocks reached a predicted 38. His personal statement was calibrated around specific mathematical questions explored during tutoring, turning academic struggle into evidence of intellectual depth.
After three attempts at the SAT all hovering around 1280, Tychr's diagnostic identified a specific error pattern in the Reading section and an algebraic reasoning gap in Math. Eight weeks of targeted preparation elevated his score to 1490. This was combined with a complete rebuild of his Common App strategy, including a research project sourced directly through Tychr.
Sofia's A-Level Economics teacher predicted a B. Tychr's Economics tutor identified that the issue was almost entirely exam technique—she understood the content but wasn't structuring answers to the Edexcel mark scheme. Twelve weeks of targeted coaching yielded an A in mock results, prompting her teacher to revise her prediction to A*.
Some of Tychr's most meaningful placements have been for first-generation university applicants, students whose families had no prior experience of the university application process, who navigated an unfamiliar system with Tychr's guidance, and who arrived at world-class universities as the first in their family to do so.
Brown University
James was the first person in his family to apply to a US university. His parents had no knowledge of the Common App, the difference between Early Decision and Regular Decision, or how financial aid worked. Tychr's counsellor worked with both James and his family, explaining the process clearly at every stage, managing the CSS Profile submission, and ensuring the financial aid application accurately represented the family's circumstances.
Sciences Po Paris
First in her family to study abroad. Tychr's guidance covered not just the Sciences Po application but the logistics of student visa applications, accommodation planning, and preparation for the oral examination that Fatima had never encountered before.
King's College London · Medicine
Neither of Nadia's parents attended university. The entire application process — from what a personal statement is to what financial aid means — was unfamiliar. Tychr provided end-to-end support, and Nadia is now reading Medicine on a full bursary.
University of Birmingham · Medicine
The first person in his extended family to apply to a UK university. Tychr guided Emmanuel through the UCAS system, UCAT preparation, interview coaching, and financial aid applications. He received three medical school offers.
Tulane University · Full Scholarship
First-generation applicant from Kyrgyzstan targeting US universities with no family precedent. Tychr helped Asel identify scholarship opportunities, complete the CSS Profile, and write essays that placed her in context.
Tychr's test preparation combines diagnostic analysis, targeted strategy, and structured practice. These real student outcomes prove what is achievable — and what it unlocks in university admissions.

Tychr Playbook Factor
Every strong Tychr application had a throughline, a specific intellectual interest, personal identity, or professional direction that connected the academic profile, the extracurriculars, the research or internship, and the essays into one coherent story. Applications where these elements felt assembled from different students' files rarely succeeded at the most competitive schools.
100% of students on fully managed Tychr admissions programmes received at least one top-30 university offer in our most recent cycle. The specific placements highlighted in these stories represent our strongest outcomes. Results depend on the student's starting profile, their engagement with the programme, and the competitiveness of their target schools.
Both. Tychr provides the strategy, the expert guidance, the essay coaching, and the research facilitation, but the student does the work: the drafts, the research, the mock interviews, and the exam preparation. The students in these stories were exceptionally committed. Tychr amplified that commitment and directed it strategically.

Yes, and some of our most meaningful outcomes have come from students who started below their target school's competitive range. See Section 7 for specific examples. The earlier we start, the more we can influence the profile.
